Made it: Too Big Blanket*

2013 February 19

* I have decided that the title of ‘Make it Monday’ has become something that stops me writing about what I am doing, if it isn’t Monday i can’t write about it and then on a Monday I rarely have time so from now on I am calling these posts either Make it – for recipes, tutorials and patterns etc and Made it – a record of the items I have made. I also want to try and write more Work In Progress posts so I have a record of what I am working on, or planning on starting. I really hope that this makes me post more and get a bit more creative.

Do you remember back in October this post about my Too Big Blanket and how long I thought it could take to finish?

Well really as soon as November arrived it got put aside as I sewed table runners and stockings and cushions and bunting. Then after Christmas I took it with me to Cornwall and managed one row in the whole two and a half weeks I was there. Not very impressive.

Then I got home and I was suddenly on a roll. I was desperate to get it done, but it was so hard to leave it in the middle of a row so I wouldn’t start one if I knew I couldn’t finish before bedtime. Once I had less than ten rows left I was so happy. And then the last row! I sailed a bit close to the wind with the yarn on the last row but finally it was done. A few nights later after a quick whizz around the edge three times to add a border it is done.

I love: The colours. The stripes. The weight. The warmth. The drape. The softness.

It isn’t perfect. After making it too long in the first place it was a frustrating project to finish because I knew I was never going to be happy with it. I don’t really like the pattern but that could be just from staring at it so long. I have mixed feelings about it to be honest.

The colours really are fabulous though.

It is too long to photograph anywhere in my house! Here is is on my bed. It goes from the tip of the pillows right down to the bottom of the bed. It has ended up just a little bigger than half the width of the bed. I could never have made it big enough and even if I did who really needs a blanket that big? I do however need a quilt that big. One of these days I will get that done.

Here are some pictures. They are not great, my depth of focus wasn’t right and I didn’t realise until I downloaded them but the chances of getting enough light on a day that the children are not here are very slim so here are a few.

It is definitely a snuggly blanket. I am glad that I finished it before it got warmer and I didn’t need it for a few months :)
