Can’t run, can’t catch, can’t throw.

May 2, 2006

That’s me. A complete, utter girl. Useless at all sports and anything physical whatsoever.

We went to the beach on Saturday and Paul nearly gave himself a hernia laughing at me trying to throw. I am useless. Ever seen a three year old waving their arms around in glee? Yep, add a stone to that and you get my throwing style. I even managed to pull a muscle in my next doing it.

Catching is worse. If I manage to catch something I generally hurt myself in the process. Usually I just miss completely, as my hands come together they generally end up half a foot apart.

Running? Even seen Phoebe running in friends? Yeah, I’m not even that cool. I am so envious of people that run. People like Lèonie that when they talk about it make me long for that kind of ability and freedom.

Why am I telling you all this? Well because in my infinite wisdom I have signed up for Race for Life in July. A 5k run to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research.

You don’t have to run it and I am certain that there is no way I will be able to run the whole thing. But I want to try and that is why for the first time in my life (well since cross country at school) I donned my running shoes and off I went yesterday. I have a training plan that I downloaded and that is what I am trying to stick to. Running 3 times a week. Yesterday was Day 1 and I was meant to Run for 1 min, then Walk for 1 min x 10. I managed 5 then had to have a 5 minute walk before I could manage the rest. But I did it in the end. So I have decided to extend the training plan by a week and just do that for the next three times until I get a bit better at it, then I can start following the plan with more confidence.

I have 8 weeks until the race so with a bit of luck (and perseverance) I will be able to run a bit of it by the time I get there.

I hate asking for money from anyone so I don’t expect that I will be able to make a lot of money but I am doing this for me as well. But if you have a spare £1 you can sponsor me online and the lovely interesting British Government will add some if you tick the gift aid box. Even if you don’t want to sponsor me then check out my sponsorship page anyway and see what lovely messages people leave me.

I will keep you up to date on how it is going and if I am managing to stick to the plan!!!

Oh and by the way. I hurt so much today that my legs barely walk ;o)

I’ve donated – it’s only £2 as I am so very poor. Good luck, you’re doing a great thing.

Keep going. The first couple of sessions are the hardest but it’ll get easier!
