The Gallery: Green

April 27, 2011

We moved into this house just over four years ago. It is the first house that we have owned and we love it so much. Mr C in particular loves the garden but when we first moved in it was very different to what it looks like today.

The only thing that remains is my Pom-Pom tree. I don’t know the real name for it. Every year someone suggests we cut it down or do something else with it but I refuse. That tree flowered as we moved into this house four years ago and each subsequent time it reminds me of how far we have come, how much we have done, what has changed in our life since the first time it flowered and the last time it flowered.

It starts off with little green buds, then they open and the green flowers appear.

In a matter of days they turn to pale green then white as they open up into all of their wonderful pom-pom glory.

Sadly, it never lasts long and usually we get a blustery days when the flowers come out and all of a sudden we have a petal confetti strewn lawn and it is over for another year.

Oh, but it is so beautiful while it lasts.

If anyone knows what type of tree this actually is I would love to know!

The Gallery: Green

March 17, 2010

The prompt for The Gallery this week is colour. I was thinking that I would get out and see if I could finally photograph some daffodils in bloom because yellow in spring just makes me so happy but I decided to drive home from Eastbourne on Monday the long way so Piran would sleep and I suddenly remembered that I would be driving past this and it seemed like fate.

The green telephone box is in the Seven Sisters Country Park at Cuckmere Valley. The photo is not the best because I had to snap and run as Piran was sleeping in the car. I tried to find out more information when I got home but Google has let me down this time, I cannot find any interesting facts about it. There is no telephone in it and some of the glass has been broken. It is the only green telephone box I have ever seen, although I know there are more in various parts of the country.

I love it, a green telephone box. With no phone in. Totally surreal!

Typically eccentric British sight really, phone box with no phone!

So they camouflage the box and then if you can find it it has no phone! Typical BT haha! Lovely photo

Phone boxes are so rare nowadays and I have never ever seen a green one

How brilliant – you think it's green to blend in with the landscape? How very apt for St Patrick's Day 🙂

Great pic – not every day you see one of those! x

That's amazing. Surreal in the best possible way – takes all your expectations and turns them upside down making you look at the world differently.

I'm now planning the green telephone box tour of the UK!

I knew they had white phone boxes in Hull but not that there were green ones

Haha, imagine walking for miles as you can see a telephone box only to get there and find it is defunct! Perhaps that's why it's camouflaged. Great picture.

Great pphotos – love the green phone cabin! It reminds me of the empty phone cabin we had “installed” at work, where everyone who wanted to have their private phone calls, could go there and do it…funny!

I have never seen a green phone box, ever. Great photo.

I love phone boxes. Shame they are pretty much all gone now. This is a great green one. It's probably camouflaged itself so no one can find it to tear it down.

That is such a lovely pic. It makes me want to ask questions. You could make up a really cool kids story about it, I mean, maybe it's not a telephone box but a door to another world, or a tardis. Brilliant.
