Link Etiquette

August 15, 2005

Being fairly new to this blogging malarkey I have no idea if there is any type of etiquette when it comes to linking to other people’s sites. Should I go and leave a message for them on their site saying that I have done it? Do you need to be friends with someone and have a blogging type relationship? Or can you just do it?

I have gone for door number three and added links to all of the sites that I have been reading recently. If anyone is offended then just let me know and I will whip you off of there faster than you can say “Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious” (because I am not that quick and may need a little time to remove it!)

The only flaw in my plan is that if everyone did this then if someone linked my site I would never know as I am not so technically minded and I have no idea how these voodoo mindreaders manage to know who visited their site and where they came from (okay so I know really that it is just computer magic but it is all the same to me!)

Okay so new plan. I have added the links to the sites I look at at work (will do the ones in my favourites list at home later) and next time I am there I will tell them that I have added a link. Sorted.

Right I am off to bask in my personal glory that I actually figured out how to add all the links….

Hey DF, thanks for the link. I’d be happy to add you to mine as well. As for link etiquette, it’s nice when someone mentions the link, but they don’t have to say anything. It’s usually just a nice surprise when we come up on it by accident. But now that we know, we’ll be back again to visit!

You can learn who is linking to you by checking – http://www.technorati.com/search/ – that’s how I learned of your link!
