In one of those ‘I really don’t have the time but I really want to do this’ moments I signed up for Round 2 of the #schnitzelandboominiquiltswap. Organised by Schnitzel and Boo over 600 participants over the wrorld are joining in and making mini quilts for secret partners. How totally exciting.
I cannot reveal my swap partner as I am posting it off tomorrow but I will say that it is leaving the UK. This makes me equal parts excited and nervous. Making something for someone you don’t actually know is nerve wracking but we had a filled in questionnaire and I did a little IG and blog stalking. I just hope they like it.
I started with a charm pack of Kate Spain’s Daydream. I used a tutorial for making perfect postage stamp patchwork – using interfacing makes it so easy and a lot of fun. I have got lots of plans for this and my scraps!
Then I made the heart shaped ‘porthole’ as shown in Lu Summers Quilt Improv book.
I wanted to keep it scrappy, and using a charm pack was great because I knew it would all go together. After a difficult moment when I cut the centre block smaller than I had planned I rallied and went all in for chain piecing, white sashing (maybe Kona Snow – it wasn’t labelled) and scrappy borders.
I am completely in love with the hot pink binding and the aqua backing that I chose.
I winged it with the quilting, making it up as I went along, with something that started out as an orange peel type design. I stitched in all the border ditches too. The quilting isn’t perfect but I enjoyed doing it.
And this is the finished mini quilt. I decided to call it Dreamy Love:
And the back complete with label.
