Made it: Unicorn Cushion

June 22, 2013

I am being pretty terrible at using this blog to record all of my makes. I am going to make more of an effort though because each week it becomes clearer and clearer that this is what I love to do. The happiness and excitement I get from making something is really something wonderful. Recently though I have realised how much more excited I feel when something that I am making is something that I have designed myself.

At the start of the year I pledged to make 5 handmade gifts for the first 5 people to comment on one of my Instagram posts. One of those people was my new friend Peachytwins. We follow each other on Instagram and one day she posted this. IMG_0844

And so I decided to make her something with this quote on it. I just started out with a plain piece of fabric and my Pearle embroidery cottons and got started. I thought I would applique a Unicorn on but they all looked very fiddly and then I found the pink sparkly transfer on eBay. Peachytwins loves pink and I just knew it was perfect.

I added some other fabrics, the unicorn and then did some machine quilting on the pillow. I backed it with two different fabrics and it has an envelope closure at the back.

I completely love it and it was quite hard to pass it on as a present. She was completely thrilled with it and that makes it totally worthwhile. In fact in the end I was so excited to give it to her that I didn’t manage to take any decent pictures. Thankfully she Instagrammed the hell out of it so I have pictures to share.

I had so much fun making this and since then I have made another cushion that I designed – I will share some details shortly.
