Make it Monday: The Book Project

October 8, 2012

I was lying on my bed, contemplating life, the universe and everything recently and my eyes strayed to the bookcase in the corner of the room. The middle shelf is packed with sewing and craft books. It occurred to me that they had all been placed there since I moved out of my sewing room 18 months ago but hardly ever picked up. Admittedly they are in the wrong place, sitting in my bedroom when all of my sewing things are downstairs at the back of the front room, the dining table is my sewing space these days. I realised that there are many books here that I haven’t even made anything out of. That is shameful really. I am seduced by projects on blogs and easy to access tutorials and never even pull them off the shelf.

I have decided that now is the time that should change. Money is tight this year and I want to try and make most of the Christmas presents that we are giving to people and really I should start that now. So the books have been moved downstairs and the garden books have been moved to their new home in the bedroom.

So I am hoping that I will manage to make at least one thing a week from one of the books at a time. Then I can blog about it here. Killing the proverbial two birds with one stone, Make it Monday blog posts, Christmas gifts and using the books. Oh, is that three birds?

Time to get browsing and making lists of the gifts I am going to make. I hope that you will all find it interesting.

We are so alike, I have a fetish for craft books, but they are looked at and not used. I must do better!

I challenge you to make one thing from one of the books before the end of this month. (Glad I am not the only one buying the books and not using them)

I always get into self help books and read them part way… I am not creative unless it is writing. However, this year I am going to attempt to make a personal pillow for my ‘D’. Wish me luck, I want it to look pretty and I am not great at these sorts of things, he doesn’t want me to spend a lot of money on him, so making it with my own hands would make it extra special for him.

That sounds like a wonderful idea and cushions and pillows are the perfect first project. Let me know if I can offer any help or advice. I have a lot of reference books!

May I join you and Jen? I also collect craft books that stay on shelves. I can’t resist a good book but unfortunately there are not enough hours in a day!

Oh I know what you mean, and the free time I have in the evening I am usually so tired I cannot think straight! Glad I am not alone in my book collections.

There are going to be some great Xmas presents but the garden will be going to pot! ;~)

Ha! Very good point. Our poor garden has suffered this year with Mr C being away so much. We will give it some TLC next year. Maybe I will swap the books back after Christmas.
