Make it: Open Wide Zippered Pouches

March 13, 2013

After over two weeks of being unable to sit at my sewing machine because of a bad back I have been desperate to get sewing. It doesn’t help that I don’t really have much storage for my fabric so it sits in clear plastic boxes in the front room taunting me.

Today I decided to tackle my sewing nemesis, the zip. I wanted a project that was relatively quick, so that I wasn’t sat down too long. It was time to try and make a zip pouch.

I have had the Open Wide Zippered Pouch by Noodlehead pinned for as long as I have been on Pinterest so it was time to have a go. I had tried once before and failed at the first hurdle. But reading it back this morning it all seemed pretty straight forward so I just went for it. It was brilliant!

I made the first one with no problems. Initially these two were meant to be a present for my Dad, to keep his art supplies in, but as soon as I finished the first one I wanted it for myself! I made the second one for him (with the boats) and I have decided to make two more, but using the two other size options in this post so he has a set. I have even ordered more zips.

Take that zips. I faced my fear and I have prevailed!

Do you have a sewing nemesis?

Haha well done on tackling your nemesis. I think mine is my sewing machine, it’s such an ancient beast. Love the fabric, especially the little paper boats

My old one was too, my new one is a bit too fancy really. It threads itself and you don’t even need to use a foot pedal. I still do though because that feels wrong!

These look great! Well done with the zips too, they’re really neat and I love the boat fabric!

It is really cute isn’t it? I find it quite hard to find fabric that my dad and husband will like.
