Review: Milk and More

January 29, 2011

Initial thoughts: When I was contacted and offered the chance to review the service from Milk and More I was very interested although I had never heard of them before. They kindly set me up with some credit in my account and then it was up to me to order.

We liked: I find the website very easy to use. If you pop in your postcode it tells you the name of your milkman and the days that he delivers. We have used the service on a number of occasions, you just make sure you have placed your order by 9pm the night before a delivery day and in our case it has been on our doorstep by 7am the next morning. The milkman came a little later on the first delivery to ensure that he had the correct house too which I thought was great service. All of the products that we have ordered have been in stock and good quality. There is a variety of items available, the obvious milk, dairy, juice as well as a small range of other groceries. A bit like the stock of a small corner shop I would say. Delivery is free and we can get three deliveries a week if we want. You can set up a regular delivery or just get items delivered on a one off basis.

We didn’t like: The prices are a bit more expensive than our usual supermarket but not hugely so. The biggest difference I noticed was on the price of milk, but it is easily written off against the price of petrol getting to town for us to the shops. In the past month the delivery days in my area changed and I don’t think that we were notified at all, so when I went to order for delivery one day I found out that I couldn’t get anything for two days. That said the new days actually suit us better so it worked out okay.

Overall: We seem to be getting in the habit of getting a delivery of bacon and eggs every Saturday morning which has been perfect. I can see that I will definitely continue to use the service, I suspect it will be a godsend when the new baby comes. We used it when it there was heavy snow forecast and it meant that we had the basics just in case we couldn’t get to the shops.

Piran helping me unpack our delivery this morning.

Further information: Check out the Milk and More website for further details.

Disclosure: I opened and account with Milk and More and they kindly credited my account with money so that I could make repeated purchases to test the site. We then ate and drank everything we ordered!

Funnily enough we have actually just started using Milk and More, i’m finding it quite handy, especially the way you can order upto 9pm the night before. The only thing is our milkman seems to come at around 11 am which is not so good when I am at work and gawd knows what happens in the summer…

Do you only order the right amount or do you have Internet shopping related quantity issues 😉

I use Milk and More when our regular milk man changed to the Milk and More company. Once we got used to the change of time as well (the prev milk man came at 5am, well before we were boiling the kettle, now they come after everyone has left for school and work) we’ve decided we’re still happy to use it. And the convenience of being able to order fresh milk the night before is pretty fab.

Totally useless company. I was advised by my milkman to switch to this service. Consequently, although I altered the order on the website, the original order was still left on the doorstep. I didn’t receive any sense form the company either, nor did either of them ask why I cancelled the order and swapped to a decent, regular milk delivery. Zero out of ten I’m afraid!

It is a great service but the ordering system is messed up. Maybe the orders are not updated regularly. I had to call their customer service quite a few times asking them where my milk was. But, I am quite happy to get fresh milk delivered that too very early in the morning.

I have just joined think it is a great service it saves me going down to the local store this one is at your door and £10.00 free. Well it may be a little more exspensive but you save on petrol bring back the local milk man

Milk and more are completely hopeless.  I gave them my bank details twice and they still didn’t manage to take a payment.  The website said the bank details were “active” and the invoices were “paid”, when in truth they had taken nothing.  They clogged up my e-mail with constant reminders about how much was owing on my account which were wrong (the amount should have been much higher).  I wrote to them about this (because they don’t accept e-mails) and they didn’t even bother to reply (unforgiveable in my book).  I phoned to complain which was equally fruitless.  In the end I phoned up and paid off the account with my credit card.  I hope that’s the last I’ll have to deal with them.
Shame really as my milkman is brilliant!

since using milk and more iam afraid iam very dissappointed,i have on two accasions not had my milk delivered yet still been charged,i let the first time it happened go but on the second time i rang to inform them,as i was housebound with a sick child i was relying on that delivery, well the lady assured me it would be deliverd as soon as possible,i waited and waited, but it never came, yet i have not been refunded either,as a single parent pennies are tight and i think this is very poor customer treatment,i have also had deliveries left out in the rain surley youd think they would have box or somthing to store products in? i unfortunatly wasnt getting deliveries till 8.20am so had already left the house at this time,so for me this is just too late. so i will be canceling my direct debit and using someone else.

I keep wanting to try this service out but they don’t deliver to my door. I keep seeing great intro offers too but I can’t use them 🙁

My neighbours use Milk and More, and they deliver sometimes at 2.15am ! Using a diesel transit van. I live in a private lane and the driver turns his van around on my gravel drive approx 15feet from my bedroom window. 3 times a week My wife and I are woken up and are now suffering as a result. I don’t want to fall out with my neighbours so I rang Milk and More and as expected I got through to a call centre. The call centre employee was not sympathetic to my plea to try and seek out a solution, like delivering later or walking 20 yards down the lane rather than parking outside my bedroom window. Instead she said that milkmen have been delivering milk at that time of day for years and didn’t think it was unreasonable. But that was with electric milk floats and not on my gravel drive 15 feet from my bedroom window and he wasn’t delivering to me. She only offered feedback to my plea for a solution to suit both parties involved when I insisted she take my contact phone number and someone talk to me again. So far no feedback and still the situation continues. I will now speak to my neighbours and maybe they will cancel their orders with this company rather than cause this problem with neighbours. I wish this could be sorted out with a satisfactory resolution for all involved. Lack of sleep is becoming a problem but Milk and More don’t seem to care. Sorry but I won’t let this situation continue.

Sad to see negative reviews below – I LOVE my milk and more deliveries, best decision I ever made. I also feel we should support them as they mean a lot to those with mobility issues.

Thank for for taking the time to leave your opinion on the service. As everything there are positives and negatives but I am yet to experience any issues myself.

      I LIKE milkandmore.
I love the whole idea that someone else has to get up and do the choosing and carrying. After 40 yrs as a full time working fostercaring teaching Mum that is a real treat.
I like logging on every week and selecting a few treats from the bargains, then finding them on the step for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Great start to the weekend. My husband gets up first and takes a lot of childish joy from discovering a pack of buns or croissant at his feet.

Our milkman Adrian is efficient and reliable. Unlike the milkmen of my childhood he doesn’t wake us up at dawn crashing crates around. (Ive moved from glass to plastic bottles specially!) Larger orders are delivered in a carrier bag to keep them clean.

Ive only had one problem with the website – it wouldnt let me order £70 of bargains for my Saturday party because it was three days before my monthly standing order payment, so it had me logged as Bill Unpaid. I felt the rules weren’t flexible enough and i was cross for a whole day, but the call centre were calm, kindly suggested a one-off payment and extended my credit limit and after a bit of patience all was received. I’m developing an addiction to cut price Cathedral City.

I was a bit shocked when I checked some ‘bargain’ prices – more expensive than LIDLs – but then if I dont have to even get in the car….. well worth it.
So, in summary, I recommend milkandmore heartily. Buy the healthy stuff and check out the deals every week, ignore the books and gimmicky ovengloves, give your milko a decent Christmas bonus, and you’ll find it’s a good deal. Cheers Adrian !

December 10th 2012. I have been a customer of Milk and More for about 4/5 years now. Previously we had given up on having early morning milk deliveries, as after 9 am is no good for us, we need milk for breakfast. I used to buy cheaper milk and freeze 2/3 bottles to last the week out.
When the Milk and More milkman called to promote the new service in our area, we decided to try it and give it a chance.
Fantastic, we never saw the milkman himself, the milk was always on the doorstep when we got up at 7 am.
Until this year when our Milkman was changed, we knew from the website and Christmas cards it had been William, for a couple of years.
Since then we consistently have milk delivered late, after I go to work, after 11.oo am last Saturday!
Now if we are going away with our caravan on a delivery day, we now have to cancel the milk for that day as well as the days we are away!
I have rung and spoken to someone, who I think was in a call centre abroad, they weren’t interested in my problem of late deliveries.
After Christmas I shall have to give up on it and go back to freezing the milk we need for the week.

Sorry to hear you have had such a change in service.

As a milkman myself Milk and More does have the potential to be a good service, unfortunatley for me lack of stock and prices are killing us.
Over christmas and new year i had £60 worth of products classed as unavailable ,this at the same time they raised the price by 3p(second rise in two months).
I have always had customers who have kept me for the 12 years ive been doing the job out of loyalty but now i`m losing some, can`t see it getting any better either.
Dairy Crest have a lot of PAYED staff whose wage does`nt depend on sales who simply don`t care IMO.
Due to rellocation i now have to drive 13miles from my town just to pick up the milk then come back with it, then after ive finished do it again.
Time has come to look for something else , not easy ,and even harder when you`re stuck having to give 13 weeks notice.

Such a shame about the customer service.

Never met my milkman but things generally turned up as they should – in date etc…. I was starting to order more things rather regularaly.

2 incorrect bottles left – not a biggie I thought – called customer ‘service’. Shall I leave them out to switch? Yes. Ok – great. Noone came to switch. Oh well that was a shame thought I – Ill call for a refund. Now we are only talking £2 so really not much. But you know how these things are – its about the service that you get when theres a problem. Ive just made my third and final phone call (bearing in mind this was approaching a month ago) on the subject. I probably have now spent more than £2 on the phone calls! I have now been told that they cant refund me unless I save my payment details permanently on my account. EXCUSE ME? I dont and never have stored my payment details to an account – I will use them the time I am ordering and make sure i certainly dont save details permanently to an account due to the ease of fraud. So they have no other way to refund me and theyve nicked my £2. More importantly they have lost a good customer and have a person who will speak negatvively about them in the future. I feel rather sorry for my milkman/woman as if they are most likely to be the one to miss out.

    • Reply kizzy February 4, 2013 at 10:04 am

maybe its good for people that can earn £6+ per hour and are therefore too busy to spend £12 worth of time worrying about £2 !

      • Reply Katie February 4, 2013 at 1:51 pm

maybe you can understand that this is a complaint about their customer service – and maybe you can understand that if it was better the company would earn more – thereby making more profit and (if it were decent) give their staff a pay rise.

I feel sorry for the delivery persons as they are not to blame it’s Milk and More that just send anything they have in stock, ring them and no one really seems to care, I just had part order delivered in morning, never rang bell as requested as I sleep in daytime (or try to), then bread was delivered in afternoon and was different to order, still never rang bell. I rang them and girl said cost of order would be cancelled but not done as yet. I did a bakery delivery service over 40 years ago and customers would not stand for this type of service. Their prices are very high, 4 pints of milk at Lidl £1 M&M £1.99, same with most of what they sell. It is often old people that need these services but at their prices it would be choose between Heat or Eat. It could be a good system if the company was reliable and prices more reasonable, would rather pay a delivery charge with lower prices then could order once a week, don’t need 3 deliveries a week with fridges and freezers.

    • Reply Richard January 25, 2013 at 5:22 pm

offline the 4pinters are now £2.58 ,i personally have to pay nearly £2 for them ,then sell them on.

Recently , there has been offers on thorntons chocolate boxes and i ordered .But they cancelled my order and failed to deliver it.

Reason – when i called them they told me it was out of stock .while they had taken my order and sent confirmation

I would highly recommend not using them !!!

My experience of milk and more is a lot different to many who have written here. I didn’t receive goods I had paid for. The items didn’t come so I rang customer service (0845!) she assured me they would be deliverd two days later. Then again waited at home, around 4pm I rang and the lady said they would be here soon, milkman still out for deliervy. Come 5:30 still no show, I rang again and they’re closed. So I called next day cancelled items, and requested money back, but was given less than half the refund. I’ve probably wasted more money on calls. The people are very nice and friendly, it’s a shame it’s all words and no action.

I never had any problems with Milk and More and have been using them for over a year. Last Monday, there was one item I didn’t receive, although the note said it had been delivered. I phoned Customer Service and had a refund straight away.
