On Sunday Mouldy and I put our best foot forward for McMillan Cancer Support and did an 8 mile sponsored walk. I had signed up for it a couple of months ago and watched all week with a sinking heart at the weather forecast.
Still Sunday morning arrived and I got up early, dug out the wet weather gear and went to collect Mouldy from his house. Who I will add at this point had decided that wearing shorts was a good idea!
We turned up, we registered, we waited for a hour before we were allowed to set off because it wouldn’t do if we started without some encouraging words and ribbon cutting from the mayor! This is us all warm and toasty, drinking tea in the community centre while we waited for the off. The lovely lady with us is our friend Sue from work.
At 11.30 we set off – the first part was a 2 mile walk from Woodingdean to Rottingdean and the weather was holding up – just a couple odd showers. At the two mile point the less adventurous happily got the bus back after drinking tea, eating fruit and chocolate. We however scoffed a couple of bananas and the odd Thorntons chocolate and then headed off up the hill to walk the 6 mile – long way round back to Woodingdean across the South Downs.
Thenh the weather decided it had been to nice to us so decided to rain continuously and sideways for the next hour or so. This is the point where I realised that despite my wet weather outfit I was offically soaked to the skin.
Good copmpany and chatter kept us going though, and the scenery that we could just see was amazing, and Sue’s dog Bertie was lovely, just watching him bound around kept my spirits up. There was the odd break in the weather as well.
Here is Mouldy on top of a hill asking his Mum to heat his dinner up for when we made it back!
I had a bowl of soup, a bath and then sat on the sofa swearing loudly at the beautiful sunshine outside – not a cloud in the sky!
We raised about £150 between Matt and I which is bloody brilliant :o)
