Weddings drive you mad.

October 30, 2007
Weddings are crazy things to organise. It really doesn’t help that I have not been to one in years and that I really have no idea how long things take and what I really need to do and when. There are so many websites and magazines out there and they all tell you something different! Crazy stuff. Still we have a date – Friday 26th September 2008 – and a venue so we are not completely lost!
G#1 is making my wedding dress which is just so amazing. I have picked the bridesmaid dresses but not what colour they will be. Paul wants to wear a black suit with pinstripe trousers and an ivory waistcoat which is nice and simple. I would really like orange flowers. So what colour bridesmaids go with that? It took me forever to pick the colour of the paint for the front room in our house so this is taking me forever. I am going to a shop to look at fabric swatches this weekend – hopefully that will put me on the right track.
So many decisions, what to eat, when to eat, what cake, what to drink, when to do the speeches, who will be coming, who will say no, if we invite them do we have to invite them, what time is the service, how will we get to the church, which photographer, what type of photos, where to take the photos, what to wear, which shoes, what flowers, what rings, who will be bridesmaids, best man, ushers, will my Mum and Dad cope being in the same place for a whole day together, will my sister get pregnant before then, will people want to bring their kids, will the kids be bored, what entertainment should we have in the evening, do we have to have a first dance, what will we dance to, how should the tables be set out, how shall we decorate the tables, can I do my own table plan, what can we use for place cards, should we have favours, should there be food in the evening, do we have to have a line up, what will it feel like being the centre of attention, why do we have so  many people to invite, will I go mad by next September?????????????????????

In my opinion, a very pretty buttery yellow would go great with orange flowers. Or even a yellow with pink touches.. the combo of yellow, pink, and orange always remind me of sunrises. 🙂

That being said — my cousin just got married and two things most spoken about at the wedding were the table decoration and the exit fanfare: the centerpieces were tall vases filled with ostrich feathers (no fuss/worry about expensive flowers or flower smells interrupting the food flavors). The exit fanfare — instead of throwing bird seed or whatever is done these days (trust me, that crap sticks to your scalp!), they had giant sparklers! It was totally cool.

Enjoy your planning. It’ll make you crazy but that’s part of the fun. :):)

Still so happy you are getting married!! Organising it sounds like a nightmare, but remember it is you and Paul’s day, nothing and no-one else matters.
